JOB PURPOSE:  The elementary music teacher is responsible for providing an introduction to technical musical concepts such as beat, rhythm and scales, musical notation, the art of singing, a beginning course in band instruments (different types of musical instruments) and different styles of music.   Elementary school music teachers also teach students about the history of music through the introduction and study of legendary musicians and composers.  Additionally, a music teacher may be required to prepare students for public performances, as the director of a school band or chorus.
